Yesterday I had an urge to watch something on Netflix, preferably something like a fantasy romantic series. While scrolling, something caught my eyes– Ohh, Lin Mei Shiu! It was a movie, called Lost in Perfection. Lin Mei Shiu was most famous for her rolls as grassroots and heartwarming supporting characters. On Netflix, Lost in Perfection had tags of dark, thriller, and suspense. From the trailer, she appeared to be a villain. How curious ! Therefore I dropped off the search for the fantasy romance and started to watch.

The story was centered around romance scam and murders, which were, however, by themselves not so mystrious in my oppinion. The points of this movie were rather to show the manipulative nature of social media and the illusion brought by the sense of the power. The illusion of power devours everyone within. Self-centered heros became villans, victim turned into perpetrator. Another povital core of the movie was to question the idea about “good woman” and “femme fatale.” What makes a woman good or evil? To whom these labels matter anyway?
The preformance of Lin Mei Shiu was no less than what I had expeceted. Her character was a complicate one. She was a flawed and (supposedly) destasteful scammer. Yet, she appeared to be so convincingly sincere about her own doings. (Her character is based on a true crime story of 首都圏連続不審死事件. Reality is more dramatic than fictions….). I wish she had more screen time….Overall, the movie was good at start and had a decent storyline. However, it was easy to forsee the direction of the story. The depictions of some charaters(mainly male characters) were a bit too flat. The transiton of emotion was also rather abrupt.
Here, I shall insert the Severmaster’s opinion:
“Why these people, after breakup, all have the urge to kill themselves with charcoal? Why? Is charcoal a reset button for them?”
To conclude my oppinion, I gave this movie a 6 out of 10, in otherwords, a passing score. Servermaster rated it as 5. So, the average score became 5.5.
